Let's talk politics

I've never been one to be interested in politics, still this coming election has sparked my curiosity a bit. I now spend several hours of my time on political forums readings other people's opinions yet out of fear I never really join the conversation.  And through my quest of trying to decide which way to vote, I found this extremely smart joke which applies not only to Canadians heading into the election but for any country who has before, now or soon going to hear political campaigns.
So I leave you reading and wondering along with my transitional outfit of spring and winter.

While walking down the street one day a "Member of Parliament" is tragically hit by a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
'Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter.
'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.'
'No problem, just let me in,' says the man.
'Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.'
'Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the MP.
'I'm sorry, but we have our rules.'
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises....
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.
'Now it's time to visit heaven.'
So, 24 hours pass with the MP joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
'Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.'
The MP reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.'
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.
He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. ' I don't understand,' stammers the MP.
'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.

What happened? '
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, ' Yesterday we were campaigning.....
Today you voted.

I was raised in a very politically active family with very specific party leanings, and I must admit that I find elections quite disheartening these days, but that joke definitely brought a smile to my face :) Love this spring look, as well- those earrings are absolutely phenomenal!- but must admit I'm slightly biased; I just picked up that lovely bag at Aldo a few weeks ago :) It's always such fun to run across other Canadian bloggers, and especially Vancouverites. You'll definitely have to join the group of us next time we get together, which will most likely be the last weekend in May. In the meantime, I'll be reading!

oh politics, it's election time and I'm so sick of the parties bashing each other on the commecials, instead of doing that perhaps they can have commercials on why they should be voted in? sigh! anyways I love your outfit, the bag is so cute! :D

I have definite views on politics, but I am the kind of person who prefers not to discuss my views. I mean, I get involved, but I would never throw my views in someone's face, and I try to avoid massive arguments over which side is "right" and which is "wrong." It seems like a total waste of time and such a drain on a person's energy. I prefer to keep things positive!

That was one the best political anecdote I've heard in a while ! In my opinion, the most important thing that a citizen can do during elections is to analyze all the candidates and their speeches and only after that to cast his vote. So, it's a good thing that you're interested in this subject and that you pay so much attention to the campaign. If the citizens are well informed, the chances of being fooled by a politician's empty words are slimmer.

I love the details on your sweater's sleeves and you look adorable with the leopard print bow. Thank you so much for your last comment, I am so relived that you think I am on the right track with my style change. I've always admired your sophisticated, feminine style, so, to hear you say those words, made me very happy.

I wasn't much into politics until I started studying Criminology. It's so important to take advantage of our rights. My family was never into voting, but I've been HARSH persuading them to do it.

That Joe Fresh cardigan is awesome. Such a great colour. Aren't you longing for the day where you won't need to wear something warm? Vancouver weather has been mehhhhh.

I have never been that into politics and the situation here is so complicated so I don't even bother. We don't have a government for a long time now.

the joke was pretty funny . . it reminds about the similarity of politics in any country. i never speak my politics on my blog just because in the US its a pretty touchy subject considering everyone gets very extreme on subjects they know nothing about .a general lack of education.
